Peru
There are several beautiful trails in this magnificent country. The most popular trail however is by far the Inca Trail. This 4 day hike will take you deep into the Peruvian countryside, along the mountains, past incredible Incan ruins and breathtaking views all the way to Machu Picchu. Note that this trail requires a permit and you will be accompanied by a guide. Don’t forget to schedule a few days in Peru’s amazing capital Lima.
USA
The United States is home to several spectacular National Parks and hiking trails. Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Hawaii - The options are endless and there are trails for everyone, whether you’re an experienced outdoor lover or a little out of shape, the US welcomes every adventurer.
If you are in need of a solo adventure, we recommend hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. The trail stretches all the way from Mexico to Canada, however, you can choose to hike only a section of the trail. You will sleep in the wilderness and carry all your supplies for several days by yourself through sometimes extreme temperatures. Definitely not a walk in the park, but definitely a life changing experience.
Nepal
The home of Mount Everest offers some of the most spectacular hiking treks in the world. If you are willing to leave all comforts at home and embark on a true adventure, Nepal is the destination for you. The classic adventure in Nepal is the trek to Everest Base Camp. This trek will take several weeks and you will be accompanied by a guide at all times. Expect to be pushed to your physical and mental limit - this trek is one for true adventurers. An alternative to Everest Base Camp is the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. A lot shorter and easier, this trek can be great for you if you want to test your strength before aiming for Everest.
Tanzania
Tanzania is home to the tallest mountain in Africa - Mount Kilimanjaro. Hiking Kilimanjaro takes around 5-7 days, depending on how fast you are. It is recommended to plan an extra day to get used to the altitude, especially if you are not used to being in the mountains. Climbing Kilimanjaro will take you through different climate zones the higher up you go. You’ll start off in typical Tanzanian grasslands and reach Arctic conditions at the summit. Although this trek requires a guide, don’t expect any tourism infrastructure along the trail. You’ll be fully immersed in the wilderness.
New Zealand
New Zealand is a real paradise for hiking. Both the North and the South Island offer a wide range of hiking treks for experienced as well as for less experienced hikers. You’ll find many day treks and therefore you’ll be able to explore several different regions on your trip. We recommend renting a camper van to allow you to see as much of this country as possible. Spend the days hiking with your home on wheels waiting for you after a long day in nature.
Italy
When you think of Italy, hiking might not be the first thing coming to mind. You’ll be surprised, Italy is one of the best destinations in Europe for outdoor lovers. From the many Alpine Treks in the north to climbing a volcano in Sicily, Italy has a lot to offer. For a day trek, we recommend the Cinque Terre Trail named Sentiero Azzurro. This hike will take you along the cliffside through the incredibly picturesque five fishing villages. You’ll be able to stop for lunch on the way and enjoy the breathtaking views with a glass of fine Italian wine.
